History

Ten years ago, northeast Oklahoma City was home to some of the state’s most outstanding attractions–all within a 2-mile radius. However, tourists often visited one attraction, not aware that state-of-the-art museums, the state’s premier horse-racing facility or a nationally-renowned zoo were just around the corner.

In 2000, the attractions, in cooperation with Frontier Country Marketing Association, began combining their resources to create a marketing effort promoting the area as an entertainment destination for tourists and local residents. By 2003, the Adventure District was recognized by the City Council of Oklahoma City as an official entertainment district.

Today, more than 3.3 million people visit the District each year, not only to watch a great horse race or softball game but also to visit 2,200 exotic animals, try their luck at the slot machines and see John Wayne paraphernalia. The District comprises a complete vacation getaway for all members of the family.
