Unless you are trying to break some Guinness World Record, you have more than likely been to a local Salon or Barbershop in the last month. Lucky for Okies, we have plenty of places that meet our needs. The hardest part is making up your mind on the style and statement you want to make. There is a place for every style in the urban core.

We know there are tons of great Salons in the urban core area, but here are five that stand out. We will tell you their address, website and district they are in. That way it will be easier for you to pick the one that best fits your style needs. FIY: These are in no particular order, all are great options.

Revel 8 – 201 NW 10th St. Suite #125 – Midtown District
Owner and Stylist Claire Westlund has created a space that many stylists hope to call home. Located next door to Packard’s Kitchen in a beautiful vintage building, Claire and friends added a modern interior to soften the hard brick and cement look of the building. This masterful artistry is a direct example of the Stylists who do their best work here. A salon full of experienced and creative minds who are the kindest people you meet.

Velvet Monkey Salon – 1701 N.W. 16th – Plaza District
Never seen what you are looking for on anyone else? Your best bet would be the Velvet Monkey salon. Estrella Evans created a movement in OKC that has given us many great Salons in the Urban Core. Starting in a small house on 23rd st. Velvet Monkey saw a move to the Plaza District during the beginning of it’s rebirth. There is plenty to see inside of the salon. The walls have art work by local artists and graffiti art that matches the attitude.

Starlite Salon – 719 NW 23rd St – Uptown District
Just a few doors down from Cuppies & Joe, Starlite resides in an old bungalow on 23rd st. A small, but comfortable salon that makes you feel right at home. They have seen Uptown grow into a district full of great shops and restaurants. With a steady clients Starlite makes finding your style a simple task.

Flux Salon – 1 NE 2nd Street, Suite 208 – Deep Deuce District
Hairstyles are in a constant state of change. Flux would like to keep you up to date on any style on trend. Located across the street from Anchor Down in Deep Deuce, Flux has been around for some time. Taking care of a district filled with young professionals and urban neighbors.

Eden Salon & Spa – 4200 N. Western – Western Ave.
Now with three locations in OKC, Eden has been known for their elegant locations with a high quality range of services. Their Western Ave. location is next door to the historic VZD’s. After a long night of music and drinks the next day you can return to that location for a spa treatment.

We can all agree at one point what we knew of Barbershops was slowly dying off. Then what seems out of nowhere they have made a come back. To many Barbers it is rewarding to carry on a tradition, but to some it was merely blazing a new trail. A trail that gave us new and even some old trends in Men’s Hair Styles.

Executive Barbershop – 101 N Broadway Ave #1190 – Downtown District
Conveniently located in the lower level of the BancFirst building downtown, this is the spot for on the go, need a quick haircut before the meeting sort of barbershop. First impressions are important in this Business District area. Executive gives you the luxury to put your best look forward.

Max the Barber & Annex – 514 NW 28th St #6 – Paseo Arts District
Making his name in Edmond for years, Max Radcliffe finally made the move inward toward the Urban Core of Oklahoma City. His new Shop in the Paseo Arts District is located in a mixed use vintage apartment building across from Sauced on the Paseo. He quickly had to expand and add another up and coming barber Kenny Nunnelee who cuts next door in the Annex. Make sure and set an appointment on the website. These two men keep very busy, but you will always be glad you did after a cut from here.

Capital City Barbershop – 1910 N Classen Blvd. – Near Uptown and Asian Districts
Jake Phelps recently opened this location in a spot that had already been a barbershop once before. He has a decade of experience under his belt and continues to elevate his craft. Don’t let the minimalistic interior fool you, these barbers pay a lot of attention to detail.

Weldon Jack – 3621 N Western Ave. – Western Ave.
Created by Local Artist Jerrod Smith this Shop is half provisions, half barbershop. Not only can you get a great new cut or shave, you can grab new gear and fashion from many local creatives. A heavy style inspiration comes from the classic motorcycle culture. You will find bags, hats and accessories a plenty. Weldon Jack also carries Halston & Henley an all-natural grooming products company right here in OKC.

Carwin’s Shave Shop – 5710 Classen Blvd. – Classen Curve
Bringing back the importance of a freshly shaved face with a straight razor has changed many modern Men’s lives. Carwin’s is filled with Men’s products to peruse while you wait for your appointment. Whether you have a beard or not, these barbers got you covered.
